Co-hosted by Andrea Simon, Ph.D., and Sam Basta, MD, MMM, FACP, CPE, this webinar will focus on Basta’s advice delineating the best ways to integrate Human Centered Design into the healthcare delivery process. By focusing on this innovation and others, the best, most progressive systems can emerge victorious amid a sea of consolidations.

“Not all of the healthcare organizations you see today will succeed and survive in the coming decades, given the current state of the industry,” said Basta. “That’s one reason why improving the care experience is fast becoming the central component of successful healthcare delivery organizations. Naturally, integrating cutting-edge technologies into the way that systems both treat and communicate with their patients is a key element that winning systems will need to master.”

From his extensive experience as a board-certified internist, associate professor, medical director, and an entrepreneur, Basta will describe the “Perfect Storm” of science, the latest technologies and the regulatory environment reshaping care delivery. He also will outline the tools and methodologies necessary for facing that Perfect Storm and propose a framework for systematic innovation in integrated delivery systems.

Ultimately, Basta will give us a good glimpse at what the future will look like for everyone in the healthcare continuum.

“Dr. Basta understands both sides of this equation covering the need for constantly improving care and a healthcare system’s requirements to become or remain a profitable business,” said Simon. “His combined skills are especially important now that the options for care have become much more competitive and the landscape has become more complex for everyone from hospital administrators and physicians to patients and their families.”

Simon, an anthropologist and former hospital executive, who is also the CEO/Founder of Simon Associates Management Consultants (SAMC), created this webinar series to help healthcare professionals better manage all of the changes they confront on a daily basis. She has invited Basta to join her for this eighth webinar, as he is widely recognized as one of the most innovative experts in the healthcare delivery system arena.

Basta is a senior physician executive who, most recently, provided medical leadership from conception to implementation for a transformation of care initiative at Sentara Healthcare, a $4 billion integrated delivery system. The system-wide initiative included projects spanning patient-centered medical home/primary care redesign, chronic care coordination across the care continuum, advanced care planning, clinical analytics, and knowledge management.

He also is the founder of Healthcare Innovation by Design (HIxD), a global professional network with over 7,600 healthcare delivery and experience innovators including clinicians, designers, architects, engineers and IT professionals. Previously, he was a health plan medical director, where he developed and implemented pay-for-performance programs and primary care embedded case management.

Prior to that job, he was the Chief Quality Officer at Eastern Virginia Medical School, where he organized innovative clinical programs, including one of the first point-of-care-testing anticoagulation clinics.

Healthcare professionals who want to attend this webinar are encouraged to register here at their earliest convenience and include a question for Simon and Basta ahead of the June 6th session.
